The best time of year to travel to Mexico really depends on where you are headed. It is a large country with a variety of climates. Here are some of the more popular destinations and the best times to visit.

The Coast

If your travels bring you to the coastal areas of Mexico, try to avoid traveling in the middle of summer. This is the hottest time of the year on the beaches, and it is also the most crowded. Late August and early September bring a lot of rain, but they also allow you to explore the beaches without many crowds. Early summer or late spring may be the best times to visit. Winter is nice as well, provided you are traveling to a fairly tropical region. Remember that fall is hurricane season in some of the most popular areas, such as Cancun, Puerta Vallarta and Sayulita Mexico, so travel at your own risk if you choose one of these destinations towards the end of the summer.

Inland Mexico

The central portion of Mexico sits on a high plain. While it has a range of climates, typically warm in the summer and cooler in winter, be prepared for cool weather whenever it is dark. If you are looking for a warm destination but are not interested in the beach scene, be sure to visit inland cities in the summer, but bring some cool weather clothing for the evenings.

The South

The weather in the southern sections of Mexico is warm year round. These are best visited in the winter, as the summer can be unbearably hot. If you are looking for a warm getaway in the dead of winter, choose southern Mexico.

The Mountains

Mexico has several mountainous regions. These have a typical mountain climate. While it will be warm in the daytime in the summer, spring, and fall in the mountains, it gets quite chilly at night. There really are few snowy regions in Mexico, so even if you travel in the winter, you will not have to deal with harsh winter weather.
